The baby fox was curious and came within five feet to say hello; the afternoon autumn light lit the fox’s fluffy fur and bright eyes. I pulled a couple of cranberries I had picked from the bog earlier in the day and tossed them to this new sweet friend, “What a lovely day it is to meet you…also, where is your mama?” We momentarily sat in a timeless numinous pause in the warm, fading sun. Then the fox pranced silently down the dusty path and disappeared through an opening between the towering deergrass and elderberry shrubs, pausing briefly to casually look back as if to say, “See ya around.”
